D. Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) The purpose of the VAAP is to evaluate the performance of students with significant cognitive disabilities. The VAAP is available to students in grades 3 through 8 and grade 11 who are working on academic standards that have been reduced in complexity and depth. Only students with significant cognitive disabilities who are eligible under IDEA 2004 and who meet the VAAP guidelines for participation may be assessed through the VAAP. Students will compile a collection of work samples, called a Collection of Evidence (COE) to demonstrate achievement on the Aligned Standards of Learning (ASOL).Students who participate in the VAAP participate in all content areas; participation decisions are made on an individual basis. III. Who Should Be Tested It is the intent of the Commonwealth of Virginia to include all students with disabilities in the assessment component of Virginia’s accountability system.
